Terminal 3 x IMDA Sandbox

Terminal 3 x IMDA Sandbox

Context

Governments and regulators worldwide are introducing new age-verification restrictions to gaming, creating significant challenges for game developers. Age-verification requirements often rely on collecting sensitive user data, such as a digital ID or credit card, which can disrupt user experience and pose privacy risks. For developers, this can lead to operational disruptions, increased compliance costs, and potential barriers to user acquisition.

Terminal 3 is on a mission to tackle these issues head on with minimal disruption to operations or compromise to the gamer experience. As a Web3 privacy and security infrastructure company, they're solving age verification challenges at the identity level using privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) like zero-knowledge (ZK) cryptography.

Pilot Project

The IMDA Privacy-Enhancing Technology Sandbox is an opportunity to explore solutions to these challenges. The sandbox is focused on testing privacy-preserving technologies—such as zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs)—to enable compliance with age-verification regulations without compromising user privacy or anonymity. We are looking for gaming partners to test this approach in a real-world use case. This is an opportunity to:

  1. Future-proof & tackle regulatory challenges early: Be part of a forward-looking solution to mitigate the operational and compliance disruptions caused by emerging age-verification requirements.
  2. Shape & Protect privacy while ensuring compliance: Explore how technologies like ZKPs can help reduce the need for sensitive user data while shaping regulatory development to ensure it doesn't compromise on user experience.
  3. Access funding support: The sandbox offers up to 30% coverage of implementation costs, easing the financial burden of participation.

This initiative is particularly relevant for developers creating games for younger audiences or those seeking to navigate these regulatory changes with minimal disruption.

If you are grappling with the complexities of age-verification requirements and are interested in exploring innovative, privacy-first solutions, Terminal 3 would love to hear from you. Email our Head of Partnerships, Charmaine Chua, at charmaine.chua@terminal3.io.
